There’s a New Engagement in Town

new engagement in town

Some people say that young people today are out of control. That they are disrespectful, unable to disconnect from their electronics, do not have a lot of skills, and don’t know how to engage, etc. Engagement has been redefined: It’s faster, more direct and efficient. And because small talk is boring and non-stimulating, it’s kept to a minimum. Stimulation works. ... Read More »

As Grand As The Canyon: Positive Thinking

People think maintaining a positive mindset is something like a fairy tale; it’s all in your head. But what if they’re right?  Positive thinking is something you control.  As a teenager, I was so cynical that family and friends complained to me about my attitude. They cited specific examples of things I would do or say to prove to me I was a total ”battery drainer.” I never had anything good to say. Cynicism had become a way of life for me, it was all I knew. In simplest terms, a negative mindset results in negative living, and that’s exactly why my life was so miserable. If you think you might be suffering from a negative mindset and would like to begin to understand the power of thought, then try what I did. I took advantage of the opportunity to answer a simple question differently. It’s a question we’re all asked several times everyday by strangers and friends alike. Whenever somebody asked me, ”How ya doin’?” I decided to respond differently. I made a conscious choice to answer with one of the following expressions: • Never better! • Outstanding! • ¡Fantástica! • Just peachy! One day I took things a little too far and actually said, “If I were any better, there’d be two of me!”  It was a bit too much but you get the idea, right?  By deliberately responding to the question, ”How are you?” in an upbeat, optimistic way, I created positive energy in ALL areas of my life. Recently I met a man in Orlando. When I casually asked him how he was, he replied, “As grand as the canyon!” I was struck by his life-giving words. We talked about how optimism builds positive momentum. Simply put, positivity defies gravity. It trickles up, around and sideways.  Give it a try. Experiment with your own positive responses to the question, ”How are you?” Initially, people might look at you like you’re not serious. You might even feel like you’re lying at first. But it won’t be long before your responses become second nature. You’ll be less likely to follow up such positive words with negative talk, and you’ll be more inclined to play up what’s going well in your life. Before you know it, people will start telling you what an inspiration you are. Why? Because your enthusiasm will be contagious and- your outlook will genuinely match your words. You’ll manifest goodness in your life and the downside risk to this strategy is zero. Please accept this personal invitation to make your life as grand as the canyon and begin to witness little improvements in your everyday world.      Share with me! I’m always looking for ways to bring more positive energy into my life. Tell me about your techniques. What do you do to maintain an optimistic mindset? When I Wasted My Life – Soulful Strut

My corporate job was the “make sense” thing to do, but I hated every minute of it. I liked the money but that was it. I was in no way passionate about what I was doing. My life was meaningless.
