Character Matters

character traits My character developed the day I looked in the mirror and said, “Lying to the outside world about who I am is one thing; lying to myself is pure cowardice.”

I used to get caught up trying to:

fit in,

please others, and

act like my ideas didn’t have value.

I was playing small in my self-build little world and I was losing myself.

I wanted to feel better day-to-day and I wanted to be the same person in public that I am in private. I felt like my character could use some improvement.

So I set out to seek my truth. I began by limiting stupid, annoying distractions. That was anything I found to be stupid or annoying. To learn how to focus internally I had to get self involved. Whenever conversations about celebrities or who was kicked off a show began, I would immediately ask myself, “…and this impacts my life, HOW?

That questions helped me to become more real in my thoughts and actions. It is how I learned to focus on being a better person through my actions and thoughts.

It is no fun living life not knowing a lot about yourself. If I had continued to watch all the reality tv I enjoyed so much, I would not have the peace I now have in my life. It may sound strange, I know. That’s why life is a different journey for each of us. I am easily distracted. It doesn’t take much for me to forget what I was doing 15 seconds ago. TV was my out, my distraction.

What about you? What can you do to develop in your life? Pick an area and get started.
